The 19th Annual State Agency Recognition Awards (SARA), hosted by the Department of General Services (DGS), recently honored state departments and small business (SB) and disabled veteran business enterprise (DVBE) advocates for outstanding achievements in SB/DVBE advocacy and contracting success.

For Fiscal Year 2017/2018, CDCR did $267 million worth of business with small business and $39.5 million worth of business with disabled veteran business enterprises.

Governor’s Award

Given to the State Agency or department that best exemplifies excellence and innovation in providing contracting opportunities to SB/DVBE firms.

Secretary’s Special Achievement Award

Given to a state department, agency or individual whose best practices, innovation and advocacy efforts have allowed them to go above and beyond in exceeding the State’s SB/DVBE contracting goals.

Departments with Notable Achievement

CDCR was one of many departments who were recognized for exceeding 30% or higher for their SB participation goal and achieving 5% or higher for their DVBE goals.

Advocates of the Year Award

Honors State Department Advocates for their outstanding achievements in supporting, promoting and contracting with SB/DVBEs. The advocates mentor others, create a culture internally and externally, and actively engage the SB/DVBE community.

Congratulations to Eleanor Amith, ASP, for winning the Gold Award. Eleanor was appointed the SB/DVBE Advocate at Avenal State Prison for four years prior to retiring on Oct. 31, 2018.

This new award was introduced by DGS to be awarded to an employee who provided outstanding and instrumental indirect support to their department’s efforts in SB/DVBE contracting. This individual worked with their department’s purchasing team, SB/DVBE advocates(s), SB/DVBE community and/or other personnel to achieve this success.
