The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is requesting applications for Reception Center Programming Grants. These grants are for individuals and not-for-profit organizations who are interested in providing programs to offenders housed at the Department’s six adult Reception Centers. The grant opportunity is designed to expand available program opportunities to offenders following arrival at a CDCR reception center.

The grants will provide $1 million in funding per year for three years ($3 million total grant amount). Grant funding is available on a one-time basis, with the grant period beginning on June 1, 2018 and ending on May 31, 2021. After the end of the grant period it is expected that the programs will be sustained by another source of ongoing funding, and without additional funding by the CDCR or other State entity.

Individual volunteers and not-for-profit organizations are eligible to apply if they are currently providing successful programs in a correctional setting. This is a significant departure from previous grant programs from CDCR’s Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP), which limited eligibility to individuals/entities who offered programs in a CDCR adult institution. It is anticipated that this will result in the introduction of additional programs that have been successful in other correctional settings, but have not found their way to CDCR institutions.
